Our Story

WHO WE ARE

Safe Cats of Barbados is a registered charity dedicated to helping the cats of Barbados—and the people who love them. Run by just two passionate volunteers, Wendy O’Neal and Dr. Barbara Belch, we’ve become victims of our own success. With nearly 100 cats currently in our care, and many more waiting for help, we are stretched to the limit.

WHAT WE DO

Rescue & Rehabilitation
We rescue abandoned, injured, and sick cats and kittens, providing medical care, fostering, and love until they are ready for adoption.

Adoption & Rehoming
We find loving homes both locally and abroad. Many of our cats have found forever families in the USA, UK, Canada, and the EU.

Partnerships with Hotels & Resorts
We work with local hotels and restaurants to manage stray cat populations—helping cats stay healthy and keeping guests happy. These cats are a natural solution for pest control.

TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) Program
We run a small but effective TNR program—the only evidence-based method to humanely manage and stabilize stray cat populations.

Education & Outreach
We run compassion-based animal education programs in schools delivered by Wendy O’Neal and promote the mental health benefits of animal companionship. Dr. Belch, a licensed clinical psychologist (USA), leads this work.

Support for Pet Owners
We provide guidance and support for Barbadians who want to care for their animals responsibly.

Travel Coordination
We arrange travel escorts and assist visitors who fall in love with a Bajan kitty and want to bring them home.
